They have been peacefully protesting since last year and how did our news channels cover it? I'm sure more than half of India didn't even know what the protests were about until today. Sonam Wangchuk has been the face of peaceful protests and hunger strikes since then, and their demands have been mostly ignored (when it was promised by the BJP in their election manifesto itself). News channels have reported that 3-5 people have been killed in police firing. Is this how we should treat our own citizens?

I hope things settle down and center and the local bodies reach a mutual agreement, we do not want to see another unrest in a bordering state. The current turn of events have been extremely unfortunate, and I hope, this will at least draw our fellow countrymen’s attention to an issue that has long been ignored.

In india if your population  is low or you are not violent  your community  will not get anything  this is hard truth , uttarakhand people  demanded statehood from time of independence  but due to peaceful protest and less population  it got ignored  until 2000 after many rapes and muder by uttarpradesh people  and government. I think ladakhi people  knew that they can fill population  gap so they have to take other route. I think other himalayan  states should take inspiration  from this. It's hard for ladakh to get these demands. 
1) it's a sensitive area so the central government would like to have direct rules for easy operations.
2) Granting statehood for such a less populated area without any major revenue generation industry will be hard.
3) With respect to culture I can't comment much i don't really know much about it.

Protest is a part of resistance and violence is another small part that unfortunately happens. The hunger strikes don't affect the rich and powerful.

It seems to me Mr Wangchuk is a political opportunist like many of his contemporaries. There is probably some truth to some of allegations made by govt. Listening to his interviews post riot, he continued his self promotion… mentioning the series of awards and collaborations he has received. It was all, I did this and I got this… I heard the idea of the ice stupa wasn’t his, yet he still took all credit for it. I don’t support the BJP’s stance and believe the main stream media’s portrayal of the protest is pathetic. Yet I am concerned there is no strong leadership at the helm, only blaming others is not going to solve the issue. Perhaps Mr Wangchuk is only good a marketing and might need a lesson in statecraft.

For the Chinese border issue to solve, POK homework needs to be done, then the water issue of rivers coming from China needs to be fixed where India +10 countries will sit with China for negotiations. Then Indo China/Tibet border will solve and then Ladakh statehood. Everything is planned.

The Congress councilor was leading the protest from the forefront which later turned violent ? How does that happen ? It's clearly a congress instigated and congress less riot, yes riot not protest. 

Get one thing straight had it been congress in power Ladakh would still be part of J&amp;K with no separate Ladakhi entity at all. If govt. Is unwilling to let Ladakh be transformed into a full state then it probably has to do with economic and security reasons. As big is Ladakh to have its own revenue source ? How does the "state" of Ladakh intend on running the state with no money ? Secondly, the situation with China on LAC is precarious, I believe govt. Wants full control to act and respond if things hear up again like in the case of Doklam and Galwan. 

But I do agree if it wasn't possible for govt. to allow for full statehood then BJP shouldn't have had mentioned it on the manifesto to begin with. Fake promises shouldn't have been made.

State of Ladakh can’t be created. Why ?
- State has less population, over about 3 lakh 
- 3 Lakhs with high-mid / middle income category can’t support funds of having a state government, where you have bureaucrats, politicians income, state infrastructure, and civil services and many more you can’t even fathom. 
- state needs good industrial base to provide employment 
- almost all states in India are revenue positive that means, if center puts in ₹1 it gets +₹1 returns from the state. That won’t be the case with “State of Ladakh”
- In essence a state of Ladakh will be crushed under its own weight, economically and financially. - In such case, being a state it will still be completely dependent on Center for all of it, so what’s the point of it being a state. 
- Plus, there’s also China and Pakistan complexity adding a new constant to this “state” equation. 
- Sonam is aware of all this, he was for a very long time still he fooled people of Ladakh at someone else order(you know who). He is playing with the emotions of people of Ladakh, Ladakh will never be the same. 


I hope things go back to normal soon with peace and no loss of life.
